3. When can you remove mold from hard cheeses?

Hard cheeses like cheddar, Swiss, and Parmesan are dense, so mold usually doesn't have the ability to penetrate deeply into them.

Steps to safely remove mold:

Cut off at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) around and below the mold.

To prevent cross-contamination, do not allow the knife to come into contact with the mold.

Wrap the remaining cheese in new foil or parchment paper.

Consume immediately.

Hard cheeses have a low moisture content, which prevents mold from spreading quickly. Removing mold in this way can save otherwise perfect cheese from going to waste.

4. When to Throw Away Cheese

For some cheeses and conditions, simply removing mold can be dangerous.
